This is my simplified version of a really delish, hearty, healthy brekkie that I got to know from Jamie Oliver, my no. 1 favourite chef! Jamie calls it as a Pukkola. A combination of 'Pukka' and 'Oliver'. If you've live long enough to master the English accent or you happen to speak Hindi, you'll know what 'Pukka' means.
Here goes the recipe:
It's a simple oat recipe with a couple of add-ons to zest up that typical bland oat that people normally eat.
1. Oats (choose the one that can be cooked with boiling water)
2. Chopped dried fruits : dates, raisins, prunes, apricots *whatever you like really
3. Smashed nuts: almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts *smashed all these in a wrapped kitchen towel and you'll get really nice crumbled bits of nuts
Mix the three key ingredients in an air tight container. By all means, mixing means shake the closed container like crazy. Hehe.
So, how do you eat this?
Grab a couple of table spoons of the mix. I usually make four table spoons. Any more than that, I think I can puke on this oat meal. Hehe. Mix with cold milk or powder milk over hot water. Add some honey to make it nice and sweet. And gobble up in minutes. Do take it easy on the gobble because oat tend to be slightly 'jelak', whatever you call it in English.
If you want the real deal, all out recipe, check it out here. You can add on bananas and other fruits in this meal too. Latest I heard over in Oprah, you can add apple juice in your oat meal. Have a try on that one too and see if it's yummy or not. Happy eating and eat well people!
