Island Hopping

Despite my clogged right ear with non-stop ringing noises since Saturday, I'm hoping to do more water activities this week. I need to have a quick run to the doctor right after this.

Mamutik Island is just awesome man!!! No words to describe it. The best part of snorkeling is that you get to swim along with the fish. I tend to follow that particular colorful, bright green fish whenever it goes and get to experience it eating while pooping! Haha. That's a great eye opener under the clear blue sea.

There are of course a few other islands located in the Kota Kinabalu Park. My guide brought us to Mamutik because he had never been there before, so that's where we went.

I'm looking forward for another island trip tomorrow, somewhere closer to home. Hooked up with a couple of old kakis and Pangkor here I come! Woot!

I suppose, my snorkelling activities is my pre-practices before I get down and dirty with the real thang - Deep Sea scuba diving! Can't wait!

I survived Mount Kinabalu! Oh really?

I remember my old jalan-jalan kaki once suggested that we should go for a climb up to the summit of Mount Kinabalu. It was years back and I was pretty excited about going for training. However it was all for a much disappointment when my kaki informed that we had missed the registration for that particular group climb.

Luckily for me, I get to at least step foot all the way until ...ehem ehem...a pathetic 2nd station of the summit trail. Hahaha. That's a mere 2KM from the starting point at the Power Station. You can't expect to simply pop up at the entrance counter, pay up RM 5 to climb all the way to the summit. No no, that's not possible. Climbing up Mount Kinabalu needs a 6 months boooking prior to climbing and pay up some amount of roughly RM500. *I'm not so sure about the fees.

So there I was finally made it to no less than 2KM, which was at 2nd Station, panting hard, face pale with my new found friend cum local guide constantly asking if I'm doing okay or not. Thanks man for dragging us all the way up here to experience 'short = approx. 3 hours' trekking up Mount Kinabalu with flip-flops, no sweater, a bottle of 500ml of mineral water to share with 3 persons, a tub of Pringles that feeds a few hungry wild squirrels, Angela (the day trippers lady from KL on a working trip from Maxis whom I just met at the 2nd station) and us three adventour seekers. I was knackered to the max the moment we reached 2nd station and I gave up going any further and settled to wait alone at the station while the other 2 excitedly trekked up to the next 500m to snap that 2KM Signboard. Thank god, I waited instead of hiking up because it took them more than 30 minutes to go up and down that 500m. Damn!

Obviously, I wasn't really waiting alone out there in the deep jungle of Mount Kinabalu. There were initially 2 people waiting there, Angela and a Sabahan Chinese guy. Both of them were waiting for 2 of their friends to come down from Station 4 and they are on a day trip like us too. But I reckon, they managed to climb up until probably Station 6. After sometime, a big group stop by and obviously all are KL-ians and a bunch of Mat Sallehs. Hehe. The only locals are the guides and the porter kids. At one point, I was really shivering and with no sweater on, I had no choice but to make short walks and jump around a little bit. I also had to wait there alone for a little while only to be accompanied by the cold and the squirrels. The Chinese guy and Angela were kind enough to ask if it's okay that I wait at the station alone and yeah I said I'll be fine after calling my own phone to locate my friends. There's another silly story about calling my own phone but I was so so close to having zero mobile contact with my friends at that time. How scary is that right? Hehe.

All in all, that was really superb. I'm proud to be up there although a mere 2KM up. It's a tough trail I mind you. Some trail can be pretty steep. But it's kinda cool that we only went with flip-flops but can be foolishly risky too! Unless you are going with a local who knows things around, I think you should be in good hands!

Will I climb Mount Kinabalu for real next time? That's for sure. On that note, I should start my training because I'm so out of shape now. Super pathetic!Hehe.

My First Nuffnag earning!

Hey hey...I've checked and I managed to earn a mere pittance for my Nuffnag account. But it's better than earning zilch cent. I'm hopeful and looking forward for more traffic for my Adsense, Nuffnag and more to come.

A Mad Dash for Twitter-ing!

Hey people! Hav ya'll sign up for a Twitter account already?? Go for it if you haven't. It's insanely crazy on how peeps in the US are Twittering away on almost every minute of their day. It's not as crazy yet down here in Asia, but hey, why not we embrace it too?

I know for sure that Twitter is one channel for online marketing and I'm still figuring out how it works. I should read and apply more these days.

N yeah, check out my Twitter here!

*P.S: Actually, there's nothing much to shout out about me joining up Twitter. I'm afterall a newb and a late joinee. Wot a shame!=p

Malaysian Nature Society (MNS)

I'm right now unofficially a member of the Malaysian Nature Society. Okay, let's get this straight, I'm not even a member but I happened to stalk a lot on their website to check out on their current events which are shit loads of really cool , adventurous activites. It's also a good society to be around like-minded people and you never know who you will stumbled upon to. Which in my case, I saw two familiar faces but never bother talking to them. Haha. We weren't that close anyways but that one person, we used to work together in the same team way years back. Damn, I can be a big time anti-social.

Back to MNS activities. They had caving events for last weekend at Pahang and I didn't get to join because I missed the theory class the week before. However, I did get to join their forest walk at Bukit Nanas which was unexpectedly fun! And for the upcoming 1st May, which is going to be a long holiday, they are organizing a PADI licensing trip at Mersing, Johor. For those dying to get your scuba licensing, this is a pretty good chance to make it happen. Oh, on the side note, I won't be joining because apparently, long holidays are meant for attending strings of friend's wedding invitation. Haha although, this year weddings are getting a bit sparse because almost all are already been there, done that.

Do check out on MNS website or you can add them at Facebook to get frequent updates on their latest acitivities. Do support our nature by signing up as a member and guess what it's Earth Day tomorrow so you might as well try to do something good for the Earth by now. The least thing you can do is to say no to plastic bags if you are merely purchasing an item or two at the shop.

Tips for Old People!

"When you are old, stay away from old people. " ~ Quoted from a 94 year old doctor. He mentioned that the only way he stays healthy as he is now is partly because he loves to hang around with young people. It helps in lifting up his spirit and energy when he's around younger people. And hey, guess what? I've always been hanging out with people younger than me. No wonder, I'm so healthy and young looking. Haha.

Language Frenzy!

I love picking up languages and I'm proud to say that I've successfully passed another Level 1 language last week. Despite my last minute studying regime and 'un-serious' attitude during class, I did pretty well during the written and oral test. My teacher laughed at my written dialogue and so does the rest of the class when I recited my written role play. Hey, isn't learning suppose to be fun ? Hehe. Glad that they laughed at my "Lai la" and "Wo xihuan chi hanbaobao". =p

I've passed my first level Mandarin and I don't think I'll take up the next level just yet. I prefer to learn by practise rather than classroom learning. With Mandarin done, that marked my 3rd official foreign language learnt. At 13, I had to learn French because it happened to be in my Year 7 timetable. So I kinda learnt French by accident and I did pretty well in French despite got thrown from the top class to the bottom class (beginner's class), thanks to the timetable mixed up.

My second foreign language that I learnt was German or fondly known as Deutsch. I nailed the subject too and I still remember Frau Waultraud, a typical German lady with big, curly hair and big, sturdy figure and her strict nature. And yeah, she married a Malaysian and loves to talk about her only daughter and of course she's a true German at heart.

So, would I be taking up anymore language lessons after this? Yea, sure I will. Perhaps, Arabic will be next in line. =)

Given the chance to turn back time, what would you have done?

Given the chance to turn back time, I would have ended up studying business and economics for my degree. I would have joined AISEC during my uni years and took a gap year from the semesters and live and studied in the US for awhile. I would have worked with the uni magazines and participated as a columnist or a copy writer or worked on advertising. I would have joined the atheletic track teams and run laps at the stadium. I would have traveled more.

Heck, nothing is ever too late. It's now or never!

Eat, Pray, Love

Eat, Pray, Love. Three simple steps of life. Well at least that's how simple it seems when it's written in a book.

Eat, Pray, Love is a book written by Elizabeth Gilbert. I had a chance to skim through the book somewhere at MPH. Man, I was hooked on it and I was literally standing and reading for nearly 30 minutes until my feet got sore . Every strategic sitting corners around the area was occupied with other bookworms alike and I simply settled for the standing-reading mode. Each one them sitting-readers are enjoying free reading of 'pricey' books and yours truly included. Hehe.

Initially, I was contemplating on whether I should buy the book and read it at home. But, I had to make sure it was worth the buy so that got me flipping from the Eat chapter, to the Pray chapter and finally the Love chapter. Oops, fyi, the book is divided into three main chapters:Eat, Pray, Love. Thus, explains the title of the book.

Eat - I didn't read so much on this part. It's more about her journey to Italy and indulging on loads of pasta. And I skipped to Pray.

Pray - Her journey to India where she found herself praying and meditating at the ashrams. Seeking for her spritiual journey in India. I skipped this part too. I'm not particularly interested in learning about Hinduism. If it's Christianity, Jews, Islam - I'll be reading for sure!

Love - This is the most intriguing part of all and this is where I'm hooked. Hehe. She had her bout of 'love escapade' in Bali. In this chapter, she explained how she had been maintaining celibacy since her divorce. And story cut short, she met the love of her life, a Brazilian guy and they made lotsa passionate love making. Until one day,due to too much love making she contracted a urinary tract infection. She decided to seek medical treatment from the local Balinese healer to get some traditional local remedy which works surprisingly fast and well for her. Her visits to this lady healer enfolds more interesting, true story about a Balinese life.

From her stories, I've learnt that Balinese men cannot accept the fact that some of them may have issues of being impotent and in order to solve issues of making babies between spouses with impotency, it's normal for the local healer to invite young men who are generally cabbies around the Bali town to casually sleep with the wife's of the 'problematic' husbands without any fees. It was just the healer way of helping Balinese men to procreate their clan. Haha. Or in other words, the healer is helping to heal impotency issues by inevitably becoming a pro at pimping. LOL! I was shocked reading that they take it so casually and there's nothing wrong to doing it as long as the husband didn't know anything about it of course. Oh well, I guess it's just how life is in certain parts of the world.

Having read all those, I decided not to buy and keep the book. It was a fun read though. And yeah, they are making a movie out of this book and perhaps we should go check the movie out soon!

Care to Volunteer?

I've been searching for a lot of organisations in Malaysia that perhaps I can join in as a volunteer. The reason why? I just always have a knack for doing charity work. It's just that I never have the full spirit to work all out on it. Nevertheless, a few years back , I had my share of volunteering with Mercy Malaysia. It was a great experience and most volunteers are just a bunch of fun people just wanting to help others. I never officially register as a member at Mercy and I used to get email invitations for volunteer jobs, but I never did join again because I already started working by then.

And now, since I'm back to discovering my 'path', I'm thinking, why not? Why not I give volunteering a shot once again?

I've came across this Sireh dan Cengkih where the author kindly listed out all imaginable sources for you to get started as a volunteer in Malaysia. Go check the link out. And there's a charity bazaar coming up this weekend. I'm not sure if I'm making it there but it'll sure be fun to join in.

Error on my Feeds!

For some reason, I have error on my Feeds and it's yet to be fixed. Thus, for those of you who are feeding my blog on your reader or such, you won't be seeing any updated blog posts from me. Dang, that's annoying. Nevertheless, I hope peeps do come back visiting this blog using the old manual way.
